It’s no secret that the business world prizes innovation amongst all else, and yet in the same breath does little to encourage creativity, which is exactly where innovation comes from. 

Whilst researching for my book I was interested to find a study carried out in the 1990’s that tested Kindergarten children against high school children, and found that the youngest children scored 86% for creative genius, whereas the older children only scored 15%. 

Thirty years later and we now know that we all have the capability to be creative geniuses, but most of us think that we’re not. Whether it’s because we are too stressed (stress blocks creativity) or we just don’t believe we are; therefore we aren’t (what we believe about out lives becomes a self fulfilling prophecy) doesn’t really matter. 

The fact is that we are all equally as creative as each other. In fact, our brains are hard wired for it, which is why we have evolved so fast (some of us anyway). 

The problem is that we forget, or we just aren’t tapped into the right brainwaves to get the creative juices flowing. 

And I totally get it!  


Your creativity is what sets you apart from the competition. It’s your best USP. So how do we get more ideas, more creative and more innovative? 

Allow our minds to wander and create the headspace that we need. If you have time then try setting aside one day every month where you simply relax, and let your mind go.

Another way is to work with others and brainstorm creative ideas. Research shows that when we literally put our heads together, we can generate more creativity and come up with better ideas.
